Our proposal for the new Mosque in Reykjavik is organized in two distinctive parts: the square volume that contains the prayer room and assembly hall, and the triangular volume that holds the supporting activities like classroom, library, kitchen and balming.
The primary geometries constitute a building that is a simple, yet rich identity for the Muslim community of Iceland.

The geometry of the building comes from the conditions of the site regulation and a whish to achieve distinct characteristics of the different programs of the building.
The square part of the building houses the religious spaces while the rest of the functions are in the triangular part of the building.

The square volume, the prayer room and assembly hall, is a cast in site concrete structure. The roof spans between 4 columns and the wall facing Mecca, which is a load bearing wall. The ceiling has nine big circular skylights of 4 meters diameter and 2 meters deep which lets the light into the room. The Minbar is placed right next to the Mihrab which is in the loadbearing concrete wall.
A non-structural wall that can be easily removed for bigger gatherings separates the assembly hall and prayer room.
